APW - Elgin, Veritas from first run, Grade 214, 23J, 18S, gold-filled OF recase, Montgomery white enamel DS dial with Canadian market 13 to 24 hour indications, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, jeweled barrel arbor, decorative gold disk around balance jewel setting, ornate nickel damascene, s#8401399. This early example is from Elgin's first run of Veritas grade production and is highlighted by its superb Canadian Montgomery dial.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Ticking sluggishly on a full wind after a reluctant start, overhaul recommended, fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright lustrous upper plates with some typical fine to micro-fine scratches, pallet bridge has been polished and has a reflective sheen with evident ultra-fine scratch striations, barrel jewel setting with one mismatched screw; flawless dial; excellent hands; case shows medium wear, ding to band near 7, reduced engraving detail, strips of wear to brass to bezel, band and rear perimeter, some spots of wear to brass to pendant; tight brassy bow, crown shows hardly any wear; good glass crystal.
